It was finally Christmas, and although Julie had finished her shopping early, there was still a couple of things she needed to take care of that day. So she had gotten up early and gone out and done that, despite every bit of her really, really protesting the early mornings. Lately those had been difficult for her, because it was the stage of the pregnancy where fatigue was common, but at least the morning sickness had faded, and she knew this was definitely the lesser of the two evils, so to speak, so it didn't matter much. What she needed to do wasn't going to take too long, and sure enough, with the help of a few spells and the like, everything was all set. When she came back inside, she had a small box in her hands, which promptly went underneath the large Christmas tree with...everything else. All right. Perhaps she had gotten a little carried away with all of her shopping for Arram and Claire. And by a little, she meant 'very'. It was just way too easy to want them to have everything and go overboard with the spending. Picking up something here, another thing there... it added up. Not that the money was an issue for her, because she made a decent salary, but she also had a fair bit tucked away from her conning days with Eve, earning interest in a bank. That had definitely come in handy. Going into the living room, Julie found the kids and Jace already there. She kissed her husband and her son and picked up her daughter, sitting down to put Claire on her lap. She was already almost ready for maternity clothes already at only twelve weeks along, so she preferred to have her kids sit on her lap while they still could. "Merry Christmas," she greeted her family. |

Jace had been sitting on the floor with Arram on his lap and Claire playing within an arm's reach away, reading them one of the baby books that he and Julie had gotten at some point or another. Or, rather, he was trying to teach Arram the words on the page, but Arram didn't seem to want to look at the pictures; rather, he would just attempt to repeat what Jace said to him and then go back to the car in his hands. He paused reading though when Julie came in, more than amused to see another present go under the tree, returning her kiss before putting the book aside. Playing cars with Arram was more fun and that way he could talk to Julie as well. He waited until she was settled, smiling at her greeting. "Merry Christmas. All done?" |

Julie nodded, watching as Arram happily went back to playing with the toy cars. Sometimes he loved listening to books and looking at the pictures as they read to him, but sometimes--like right then--he clearly preferred to be playing. It was so incredible to just watch them develop their personalities more and more as they got bigger. "Yeah, all done," she answered. "Actually? Technically I've been done for a while, but I just needed to go get something. I was keeping it somewhere else so you wouldn't find it," she said with a grin, her only explanation for the small box she brought in that could have easily fit in her purse. As he spoke, she casually reached up and took the bow Claire had somehow gotten a hold of out of her tiny fist before she put it in her mouth. "Was someone helping with the wrapping?" She was even more amused when Claire nodded. When her daughter started squirming a little, she put her down, and sure enough, Claire went right over to the presents, examining them interestedly. "Good to know she understands the concept of 'gifts' so easily," Julie laughed. "Speaking of which, do you want yours now or later?" |

Jace grinned. "Oh. Well if that's the story you're sticking to...." Teasing. Yes, he had gotten a lot of things for the kids, so he really couldn't talk. Yes, it was one small thing she'd put underneath the tree. He was still in an amazing mood and felt like keeping everything completely light-hearted. When Julie addressed Claire and asked if she'd been helping with the wrapping, seeing the bow she'd just gotten into her mouth, the grin turned a little sheepish, loving that she responded to that like she understood. "I got it all done though?" Hardest. Thing. Ever. He was just going to have to figure out how to wrap things magically for the next year and birthdays. Watching Claire go back over to the presents, Jace laughed and said, "We better do presents before they burst. Arram's been trying to see his all day." And it wasn't like he was against giving and receiving presents either. |

Julie nodded. "It is," she agreed. She had actually managed to hide things a lot of places so the kids didn't find them, and it had worked...until she'd needed to find it all and wrap it. That had been the interesting part. "Yes, you got it all done, and that's the important thing. Besides, it doesn't need to be wrapped well, considering all the paper's coming off anyways." She glanced over to the kids when he did, nodding her agreement with the statement. "Sounds good to me." She was going to have a lot of fun watching them finally open the gifts, although she was pretty sure that only Arram really understood the concept of presents. Claire was more just interested in the pretty colors of the wrapping. "I'm sure they'll love all of their new stuff." And that had a second benefit: it would keep them occupied for a while so she and Jace could easily clean up and relax, two things that were never really easy with small children around. Not that she didn't love being with them, but it was a tiring job, that was for sure. |

Jace nodded, but then amended, "But taking off the paper and guessing what was underneath it all is part of the fun of opening presents. It's worth the effort even if they are ripping it away in seconds." When Julie agreed to do presents then, Jace rose with Arram, and sat back down underneath the tree, looking at the labels to find one of the presents specifically for him, and then found another for his sister. To get her attention, Jace asked, "Claire? Do you want to open a present like Arram?" There was always that line of just how much they understood, but talking to them was fun anyways. He usually got a response. For Julie though, Jace pondered for a few minutes, before setting Arram on the floor and dragging out a pile of them. There were two rounds. One of them was practical plus something from his mother, one was purely an impulsive buy. Christmas was for spoiling, right? That was why there were so many presents under the tree. Once the pile of odd, various shaped packages were at her feet, he just grinned and said, "I'll make sure they don't choke on paper and boxes. Just rip into them It won't break, promise." |

Julie nodded. "Exactly. If it was just a pile of stuff, it wouldn't be nearly as fun." She watched for a moment, enjoying seeing her children having fun opening the presents, extremely intriuged at the things they were finding under the wrapping. It was interesting to her just how quickly they seemed to get the hang of the whole concept: take the paper off and you find something else. However, she found a few packages being placed in front of her, which she promptly opened, a very large grin on her face as she found the bedding, the pillows, and blankets. "Thank you, so much," she said happily, reaching over to hug and kiss him. "I have to say...I don't think I'm going to be getting out of bed much until the baby's born." Actually, she was having an urge to go remake the bed right then... but she figured that could wait. "And the pictures are absolutely beautiful. It'll be perfect for my desk at work." Now that she was staying off of field work, she might as well enjoy sitting at the desk a little more while she was doing the paperwork. The ring was absolutely stunning, and she slipped it on her right hand for the moment. "Remind me to go visit your mother this week and thank her," she commented as she stood up and got the small box she had placed there just a little while ago and handed it to Jace. "Speaking of wrapping, I may have gotten a little lazy and just wrapped this part of it," she said. In the box was a simple piece of paper that read, Look outside. And outside was the actual gift |

Jace smiled, relieved that she liked the bedding and explained, "Well. I figured that...for our house, when we moved in new things would be like a new start. And when I was looking, the saleslady was telling me about the sheets were...oh I don't know, they're not rough and wouldn't bother you..." He was so lost for things like that, and looked every bit of it, "I just wanted to make the pregnancy as easy as I can." Because he was so, so excited about it and wanted to do whatever he could to help. Of course, he added, "I didn't know what to do about the colors and we can always exchange them. She suggested those too because they're...dark and soothing or..." He just gave up and gave her a sheepish smile. As for the frame, he just nodded, but for the ring, he looked at it wryly, glad she was receptive to that. "I know you don't tend to wear a lot of jewelry. It's kind of a tradition for the Varey women to be spoiled with it though. My dad used to tell me, when he was shopping for it with my mom, that it was a hard job to find some piece of metal and stone that could attempt to live up to the beauty of the woman wearing it but that it was up to us to find something at least acceptable." If it was one part of his dad that wasn't cold and rough it was talking about his mother. "Are you going to make too much of a fuss if I do it anyways?" He finally just asked, smiling as he accepted the box that she gave him. Before he pressed on with that question though, he grinned at himself as he noticed her wrapping was a lot neater than his, and slid his finger under the tape to unwrap it. When he opened the box, he just found a piece of paper, and he looked up at her inquisitively for a moment before standing. He picked Arram up as he did, only because he'd run over to grab the paper, and headed to the door, opening a second later to find... A car. She'd gotten him, a car. Immediately a great grin spread across his face and he hurried down the walkway to it. He encircled it once, and then again, opening the hood to see the engine, and then uttering, "Wow." Seriously. Wow. He hadn't gotten to drive since their getaway in Australia and while he'd been under the thumb of Andre, his mom had sold off some of his vehicles. "Let's go for a drive." He suggested instantly, that goofy grin still on his face. |

"Yeah, these sheets are pretty much amazing," she agreed. "The higher the thread count, the softer, so this will be great." Smiling, she added, "And believe me: you're doing a great job in making all of this easier." Julie couldn't help but find the look on his face adorable when he was talking about the sheets and trying to pick out the right ones and all of that. It was pretty clear that he was kind of out of his element, but she remarked, "Well, I really like the colors, so no exchanging necessary." When he asked about the jewelry, she grinned and replied, "I promise I won't make too much of a fuss." She really wasn't a jewelry person, but honestly: what woman didn't like getting jewelry? And at least she didn't have to buy it for herself, because she honestly wasn't a big jewelry shopper. For the moment, though, she was much more focused on Jace's reaction to her gift. She could tell he was confused by the first part, but there was no way she was wrapping up the entire car, so this worked. When he glanced up at her, she just smiled, picking up Claire to follow the boys. She stood in the doorway, just observing as he examine the car. she could already tell by the look on his face that he loved it, which was really a good sign: when she'd gone to the dealership, the men there hadn't been the most helpful salespeople in the world. Of course, that was the nature of how men treated women over at places like that, and Julie knew that. She hadn't exactly gone in uneducated, having looked some things up about the different makes and models and their pros and cons... at least, enough to know when someone was trying to bullshit her into a crappy deal. That, of course, hadn't worked, and she'd actually found it a little too easy to slip back into old patterns, mainly bluffing her way through negotiating down a price and insisting on the best quality for the best value they would give her because it was actually very difficult to beat her at her own game. Despite all of that, she really hadn't known if Jace would like it and wouldn't have minded at all if he wanted to exchange it for a different model, but from the way she was examining it, she figure that wasn't going to be a problem. "I'd love to go for a drive," she said, and from the look on Arram's face (he seemed extremely ecstatic to see a real, life-sized car), he would love to as well. But that brought up another problem... "Of course, I didn't exactly invest in car seats." Yeah, she hadn't thought about that. |

Jace was pretty relieved. He didn't usually trust other people making decisions for him nor what salespeople told him if only because he was quite aware of what they were trying to do. Obviously they want to sell their things, and if any poor joe slum believed just one great thing they said about them, they had a sale. However, the higher expensive gave him a little more comfort in the fact that it was higher quality, and with Julie's assurance, he figured he'd done okay. When Julie promised she wouldn't make a fuss over him giving her jewelry, Jace was glad. He liked being able to spoil her in some way possible. The kids were easy; there were millions of toys that could be fun for them, but for Julie, he had no clue. Maybe in time he'd pick up on little hobbies he hadn't noticed and be able to cater to that, but for now, the little trinkets that attracted his attention would have to do. However, she seemed to want to do his present first. And that was wow. But then Julie brought up the logical comment about not having car seats, and Jace climbed into the car with Arram to check out the backseat. If there was one, of course. Everything was sleek and new and he breathed n that fantastic new car smell. "What do you think Arram? Did mum do good?" Hell yeah, she did good. They didn't have any car seats though, she was entirely right on that, and so Jace - albeit, a little reluctantly - stepped back out and closed the door, saying, "That's alright. We can go get them later and see if we can fit them in the backseat comfortably, and then we can go on a drive." It wasn't like he could just take Julie for one, and neither of the kids were able to ride with him without those car seats. Driving alone seemed to be an option but he'd rather have them with him, so he could wait. Which meant he could give her his final present. When he slid the thin, rectangular box out of his jacket, Arram held out his hands for it. Chuckling slightly, Jace let him have it, amused to see that the second they reached Julie and Claire, he held it out to them. "He picked up pretty quick that giving presents to pretty girls is a good thing, huh?" This present he had wrapped at the store, so it at least would be tidy and neat. He had been a little worried about it, and therefore presentation was necessary. Jace waited until she'd opened it and then said, "You know, pearls are supposedly considered to have healing powers? The Hindu religion dictated that powdered pearls could heal any illness that no one else could figure out. Of course, only the richest were able to try, and there's that thing about believing that you will get better, and you will. It's of course not scientifically correct, but that's what they say. Pearls can also represent love, knowledge, wisdom, truth, or faith. It's really interesting, honestly. You can pick any jewel or the like and there will be unique stories about each one." Just interesting funfacts. |

Julie wished she had thought about getting car seats, but it really just had slipped her mind. Oh well; they would get some soon, and then Jace could go out and test drive the car. She was just relieved that he loved it and that she'd actually managed to pick out a good quality car. The last thing she was expecting was another gift, but that was what she found handed to her by Arram. "I think gift-giving to pretty women is a good skill to learn," she said with a smile before adjusting Claire slightly on her hip so she could use both hands to open the box with a small, surprised intake of breath at seeing the content. The necklace was absolutely stunning, and she would have put it on right then save for the fact that she really couldn't with her daughter in her arms. "Jace, it's amazing," she told him with a smile. "I love it." She couldn't help but grin at the list of facts about the pearl. "Well, we'll just see how well this does at protecting against illnesses." Hey, after that virus, anything was welcome. "I think I like what this one represents." She leaned up to kiss him and then kissed Arram's cheek as well. "Ok, so how about we head inside and get the kids the rest of their gifts or breakfast?" Breakfast sounded very nice... Lately she'd been getting over the morning sickness and actually wanting to eat more frequently than normal. And right around then, she could really go for an omelet with cheese and onions and maybe even some salsa.... Hmm...yeah. That sounded good. |

Jace was glad that Julie seemed to like the necklace, having chosen to do something a little less than the traditional diamonds or whatnot. She wasn't quite the typical woman, afterall, and an atypical piece of jewelry seemed to fit. He was looking forward to watching her wear it, but he was fully aware of the fact that - just like he couldn't drive his car - she couldn't wear it. Kids. Sacrifices were made but he was much more interested in them being happy than the trinkets. "Good." He said, and then grinned when she asked for breakfast. "What are you hungry for? I'll take care of that while they finish opening." With her order on hand and the kids ready to go back to their toys, they headed back in and enjoyed the rest of their Christmas day together. |

Jace had stayed a little while after the antidote had been given to Lina, but as the healers didn't know when she would awaken - and he'd already spent a lot of time at the hospital - Jace went home with promises from the acolytes (he did intimidate them a little to make sure they complied, of course) that he would be contacted the moment she did wake up. It really wasn't until Jace was walking up the path to their villa that he realized how tired he was, rubbing at his eyes as he let himself into the house. It was late, so he supposed the babies would already be sleeping, but he headed in that direction just to peek a head in and make sure they were okay. He'd really taken to the whole father thing, and seeing as they'd been gone all weekend, he wanted to make sure they were there, and safe. Once he'd determined that, he headed down the hall into the living room where he was - mostly - unsurprised to see Julie waiting up for him. First things were first, of course; he leaned down and kissed her, and then sank into the seat next to her, uttering a simple, "Hey. You and the baby okay?" |

Being pregnant was inconvenient and boring. That was the inevitable conclusion that Julie had come to while waiting for quite some time for her husband to be home from that damn manor place. She had no idea what was going on, but it was "better for the baby" that she just come home and wait it out. Really, it was just annoying. Yes, in a lot of ways she loved being pregnant but definitely not in the way where people treated her like she was basically incapable of doing anything. Her pregnancy was high risk, and she would never want to do anything to risk the baby, but she didn't think that making sure everyone was out of the house safely was such a big deal. Besides, she had seen Lina get dragged away, and other people hadn't been in the best condition... As an Auror, wasn't it her job to help? Well, apparently not because she was clearly suspended from doing anything that was actually productive. It was just...really, really frustrating. It had been nice to go home and get her children and make sure they were safely tucked into their own beds, but at the same time? They had just been with her mother. It wasn't like they were ever in any danger. Other people had been, and it had been killing her to know that she was stuck at home unable to help them or do anything to catch the psycho that had done it. Naturally, she couldn't just go to sleep herself. Her main concern was for her own family, and she wasn't about to be able to sleep until she knew they were safe, and that meant waiting for Jace to get home. She wasn't very good at waiting, and she was pretty sure she'd read the same paragraph ten times in her book when she heard the door open, breathing an inaudible sigh of relief when Jace got home. She waited while he checked on the kids and happily returned his kiss when he came in, settling in comfortably next to him when he took a seat. Honestly, he looked exhausted, and she just shook her head, somewhat amused, at the first question out of his mouth. "Hi. Yeah, the baby and I are fine. You were with us all weekend, and nothing happened," she reminded him gently. The only thing that had "affected" her was the person badly acting as Eve, and that hadn't affected her physically--or emotionally really, actually. "I just came back here, got the kids, and we're all safe. But how are you?" she asked. "And..where were you? Is everyone all right? Are you all right? I was really worried about you," she admitted. After all, he had been gone for hours, and for all she knew he could have been seriously injured. "You must be exhausted. Do you want something to eat? Anything?" It was the least she could do. |

"Right..." Jace shook his head slightly as Julie reminded him that she'd been fine when she left, and he was just being paranoid to think that anything had happened inbetween her picking up the kids and being home. It was just left over remnants of not being around when she had actually needed him, and he had to consciously remind himself to stop. Julie could take care of herself; part of the reason that he was so in love with her was her independence, and him hovering around and being overprotective wasn't going to do anything but make her annoyed with him. "Sorry." "I'm fine...." Was it really too much to ask for a night where he could just go home and climb into bed with his wife, and go to sleep knowing that his family was safe and taken care of? "I was at Mungo's; most everyone is fine. There were very few deaths; the woman in labour and her baby survived, there had been a girl stabbed upstairs; she's in a coma but the healers are saying she'll end up being fine as well, though they are unable to wake her, someone else was shot but she'll be alright as well...basically there is great optimism that everyone who was not killed right off the bat will be fine eventually." She was offering him food, but Jace just pulled her closer into his arms, wanting the physical contact, and continued, "I'm sorry to have worried you; I would have been back sooner but Lina... it's a long story. I don't suppose you'll let me explain everything tomorrow?" No...probably not. And he didn't expect that to be fair anyways. "Please don't get mad; I did what I had to do to protect our family until I could find some other way to get things done. Six months ago, after Lina had babysat Claire and Arram for us because of that Maze ordeal? I went to her apartment to return her jacket that she had left in our apartment. I...walked in on her gasping for breath, pale against her counter with another woman waving around a syringe. It was there I found out that Lina had been poisoned during a one-night-stand with this woman, a Viola who worked with Anonymous, and needed to recieve an antidote every week or she would die. Viola had been giving Lina the antidote in return for her doing things for them; I don't know all the details about it, really. With me seeing them though, Viola started sending the antidotes to me; I was supposed to stay silent and give Lina her dosage, or else they would go after you and the babies." He was well aware that this wasn't going to go over really well, and it annoyed him that he'd been sworn into silence about it. "So I have. For the past six months I've been giving her the antidote. I've been skimming off a little bit off the top every other dose though, in the hopes that once I had a full dosage I could take it to Mungo's, have them analyze it, and create her own recipe so she didn't have to rely on Viola and her group anymore, and I could take care of the rest. I found Lina in the pool room; she'd been stabbed, and the hospital took care of that but she then went into arrest because I hadn't been sent her antidote and she apparently would not be getting anymore, as this weekend had something to do with Viola or Anonymous. They stabilized her and what I had to give them was cloned; they gave her a dose of it but she didn't wake up, and the healer apparently had been contacted by Lina a while ago to help her out. Right now they're trying to figure out the amounts of the antidote it would take to clear her system completely of whatever poison it is, but she hasn't awaken yet. I'm supposed to be contacted the second she does." For a moment, Jace just let that sit, reaching up to pinch his nose for a second before he quickly added, "I'm sorry, Julie. I should have told you about this sooner, but Lina made me promise not to tell anyone, and I couldn't find a way to fix it without putting everyone in danger or killing her." Laughing just a little when Jace apologized, Julie replied, "No need to be sorry. I get where you're coming from, but... I'm fine. I promise." Of course, a moment later, he was saying the same thing to her, and it was a relief that he hadn't been hurt or anything of the sort when he was still at that house. "I'm glad to hear everyone's going to be ok." Well, there were a couple of people who weren't, but she had already known about them, and she was sure their deaths were going to be investigated soon, and hopefully the murderer would be brought to justice. As it was, she was just content to sit in Jace's arms, resting her head on his shoulder, just enjoying the contact. The next bit, however... She did get a little wary almost immediately, just because an explanation starting with 'please don't get mad' didn't sound like it boded well. "I can...try..." She honestly had no idea what she was going to feel because she didn't even know what it was about. As it turned out, it was about Lina. And it started...six months ago. Why it was that Jace needed to tell her about something that happened six months ago quickly became much more relevant as he started telling her about literally walking in on Lina almost dying and being blackmailed into giving her an antidote every week to keep her alive. Six. Months. Julie sat up a little straighter but made herself stay quiet and listen to Jace's entire story before actually passing judgment and reacting. It honestly got a little hard not to interrupt him because... Merlin. The two of them had been keeping it from her for six months. Actually, Lina had been even longer than that. She'd been keeping it from everyone until Jace found himself caught in the situation. Damn it, didn't she know that was bloody dangerous? She'd been passing information for Merlin-only-knew how long, and she'd never thought to deal with it like they'd always been trained to do? When someone said 'don't tell', you told. You found a way to tell and let them think you hadn't or...something. It was just common sense. This was... completely ridiculous. And then they'd threatened her husband into being in on the sick little arrangement. Really: Julie knew Jace. She knew he wasn't the type to go tell the authorities anything. In fact, it sort of came with his job territory to actively avoid telling them anything, but Lina should have known better. And... Merlin, the little bit about Jace being blackmailed into it by them threatening her and the kids? Ughh. "Ok, just for...future reference..." She was really trying to stay calm when she spoke, although there were lots of things she could choose to get mad at. "...I can take care of myself. There are ways to keep people safe. I am a trained Auror, and so is she, and she should have known that you honestly never let blackmail terms dictate anything.." She paused, took a deep breath, and continued. "Yeah. I'm a little mad. I'm mad that Lina didn't tell anyone, I'm mad that you didn't tell me because... yes, I get that they were threatening her and you and that she probably begged you not to tell me, but... that wasn't exactly the most logical wish on her part. And we could have figured something out that involved them not finding anything out as well as keeping the kids safe." She shrugged. "But the thing is? That didn't happen. You did what you thought was right and what you thought would help the most, and that's what Lina did too. I... really hate it when the people I trust--and there aren't many of them--hide things from me, so am I pissed off? Yes, but I'll get over it. The most important thing is that you're ok and she's ok, and it sounds like she will be from that update." She really hoped Lina was going to be all right, and the second Jace got that update on her condition, she would be over there to visit her cousin, talk to her about this, and just see for herself that Lina would be fine. Lina was her family,a and that was most important to her. "For now? It's been a long weekend, and Lina is in Mungo's being cured, and there's really not much I can do for her right now." Yes, Lina was her family, but Jace was just as much her familly, and she was pretty sure he hadn't exactly had an easy time of things over the past...few months with the pressure of keeping Lina alive. "I'm fine, but you look pretty exhausted, so I think we should just try to relax." It wasn't like she was perfectly ok with any of this, but she wasn't about to fly off the handle about it either. They were all adults. She could deal, and she would much rather focus on moving forward from there. She leaned over to hug Jace before adding, "I just... I would really like it if you could promise me that you won't keep something like this from me again. I get that there are certain things you can't tell me because of your job, and I really am fine with that. But when it comes to my family; people getting blackmailed to pass information on my job, which would just put me in danger if they got enough that they could attack the Aurors and leave the entire Department unprepared and vulnerable; and threats against our family that are related to either of those things? I want to know. I can take care of myself, and I really think that's pretty fair." |

Jason enjoyed the short moment that she had just rested her head against him, and sighed when she sat up completely. She'd at least not interrupted, but he could tell she was angry. Honestly, he didn't blame her. It had been a long time - and it hadn't felt like that long until he counted back to tell her the time - to be keeping a secret from her, and they'd already had the conversation about her being able to protect herself. He'd already promised to try and be better about it, and then there was this. Unfortunately, this was a little out of his control. "Future reference." Jace agreed, shaking his head a little, "But you can't blame me for trying. I just don't want you hurt. Is that so bad? I know it's completely hypocritical but you leave to go to work each day and it used to be I'd wait to see if you were coming home, or if you'd show up days later, injured and exhausted. Since they were playing with her life? I didn't want to be the cause of her death, while at the same time putting you in a situation that - yes, you can handle - but not come out of in the same shape you were coming in with. I hate, seeing you hurt. Okay? So forgive me for being a little protective. I can't, help it." Yes, he'd thought about telling her loads of times. The problem was, Lina was like a loose canon. Just the fact that she got herself into this whole mess by getting drunk and having a one-night stand? It was stupid. Incredibly, stupid. And he knew that there had been two other someones who knew about Lina's 'little' issue, and she had them both silenced about it as well. he'd been trying to find a way around it for ages, but he hadn't focused on it. Between work and Julie and his children, finding a loophole hadn't been his top priority. Now it was basically over and either she was going to get better and this whole thing would have been pointless, or she was going to die and he was going to feel like he should have done more. Her admitting that she was mad and then just shrugging it off, saying that she would get over it, and that she understood to a point just served to relieve him quite a bit, and when she moved to hug him, he returned the embrace tightly, resting his chin on her head. It felt good for her to know, and now that there was no actual immediate danger in her knowing, things were even better. "I'm sorry for not telling you sooner." He did add, but then paused. Jace had no way of knowing how he would react in any certain circumstance. The truth was, he was protective of her, and although he tried to keep that to the minimum, it did come out and did control him in situations where she was blatantly threatened, while family was sitting there collapsing. It had been a valid thread, and he had taken it seriously for a reason. She was right though; it was fair. He couldn't protect her from everything. So it was a long sigh before he finally told her, "That is fair.... I will try." And that was the best he could give her at that moment, after they had just spent a weekend around people getting killed and maimed and dead people showing up only to find Lina dying and her cure cut off. |

Julie couldn't help but smile at Jace's explanation. Although she was angry, she really did understand. "I get it," she assured him. "And being protective isn't necessarily a bad thing. I actually kinda like it sometimes." It was true: she did. After all, it was nice to feel like there was someone watching out for her. While she was a strong, independent person, she had learned (and may have still been coming to terms with the fact) that it wasn't always a bad thing to let someone help or take care of you. But she really could understand where Jace was coming from. "Ok, as long as you try, that's all I want." She understood that it would be hard for him because it would honestly be hard for her too. "But for now? Let's just focus on getting a good night's sleep," she suggested. As comfortable as she was just sitting with him there, the bed was probably a better idea. Besides, with two children who woke up early, the more sleep they could get, the better. Still, she only moved reluctantly, standing up and then motioning for him to follow her. "Come on: let's go to bed before I fall asleep on the couch," she said with a smile. |

Jace was incredibly relieved to see Julie smiling, even if it was slightly amused at him being protective. It was even better to listen to her assuring him that she understood and that it was okay - sometimes. He would just have to continue to tone it down, or she'd cease to think that way. The entire conversation had gone a lot better than he had really expected, and he wished he hadn't waited so long to do so. Still, he couldn't change what had happened; only to be grateful for what was happening, then. And what was happening then was that his beautiful, pregnant wife was telling him they should go get some sleep; something he hadn't had all weekend, and while he was at the hospital. It sounded like a brilliant plan to him, and so once she stood up, and watched her for a moment, reflecting. It was odd. His life had changed so much in the past year he didn't really even recognize it. However, what he did know was that he was happy - and sometimes having a plan for everything just wasn't the way to live. Jace stood up and reached out to wrap an arm around her waist to head into the bedroom with her, yawning a little as he told her, "I'd have carried you in." Within the next two minutes, they got ready for bed, and it wasn't long after they'd settled in for the night were they both asleep. |

Andre really loved the fact that paying the right people the right amount could get him every bit of information he could possibly need. That was how he was informed that Jason had just returned to the villa he was staying in. Of course, he already knew about the villa. What he had wanted to know was where the man had went...and where his son had gone. Neither had been there for a little while, but now both of them were back, and that information was what brought him to the door. He was armed, of course, and already had his wand in his hand. He was anticipating being attacked off the bat, but he also was smirking because he, as usual, had something up his sleeve. So he knocked. |
